This originated as a golf cocktail, but it has quickly become my new favorite patio cocktail. The vodka, grape juice, fresh lime juice and ginger ale work together perfectly. Its my new “Purple Drink.” I’ll be drinking these while rooting TCU and ACU on during football and volleyball season.
What is in the Transfusion Cocktail
Vodka Our go-to Vodka is Tito’s. Use your favorite! The first time I made this cocktail, the recipe called for 3 oz. of Vodka. It was definitely a stiff drink, which I have nothing against. But, I thought it may be too strong for a cocktail that you would want to drink during the day sitting on a patio, so it would be wise to pace yourself with a 2 oz. pour.
Grape Juice Welch’s Concord Grape Juice definitely has the brightest flavor and color. If you don’t have grape juice, cranberry juice would work great in this too.
Lime Juice If you have a Central Market or Whole Foods nearby, they sell fresh lime juice. If not, no worries, grab a bottle of Lakewood or Real Lime for an easy cocktail. No lime juicing required.
Ginger Ale I am not a huge ginger person, but ginger ale definitely has its time to shine. This drink is that moment. I like to use Ginger Ale Zero to keep the sugar and calories low. The amount of ice you use controls how much ginger ale you pour in your drink. Lots of ice, less ginger ale, lower ice, more ginger ale.
Ice Fill your cup all the way up with ice before making the cocktail, then add all of your ingredients and stir. If you want a really purple drink, you can make grape juice ice cubes by filling an ice tray with Concord grape juice the day before. Pop them out and then make your drink.
